Several sports events and tournaments have been canceled due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. But recently, BCCI made headlines by hinting the tentative dates for IPL 2020. IPL was suspended in March due to the onset of Coronavirus in India. As now the nation is proceeding towards uplifting the lockdown with all the safety precautions and social distancing guidelines, there is a possibility of the Indian Premier League in the near future.
Tentative dates for IPL 2020
The president of BCCI, Sourav Ganguly, wrote a letter to the state associations regarding the dates for this season of IPL. He has mentioned that BCCI is intending to look out for the options for organizing IPL 2020. Ganguly has said that he and his team have decided on a tentative window date from September 26th to November 8th for this season. According to reports, BCCI has been in talks with all the franchises over the last few days to make IPL 2020 possible.
However, theses tentative deadlines will be followed following the cancelation of the T20 World Cup in Australia. As ICC decided to defer to take the final call on T20 World Cup in July, the committee decided to keep a window for tentative dates. ICC met on June 10th and decided to make a firm decision about the World Cup in the upcoming meeting.
BCCI has said that they are not ready to wait for this long as the final decision was expected in June. And following this delay, Ganguly sent the attached letter to the member of associations. Before fixating these dates, the committee has consulted with all the stakeholders and media right partners for giving the tentative dates. India is the first choice of location for this league, but the final decision depends upon the cases in 30 days nationwide.
Indian cricket fans now wait for the confirmation of dates for IPL 2020, which of now has been scheduled from September 26th to November 8th.
