Shreyas Iyer believes he has sealed India’s no. 4 position

Young Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer is confident of the fact that he has found a place as India’s number four batsman in limited-overs cricket. There has been a lot of debate with regards to this position as Team India has tried and tested different players for this vital position.

Shreyas Iyer impressive show

Iyer has been performing consistently well over the past year. In India’s last tour to West Indies, the Mumbai lad wad called after not much success with the other players. The 25-year old performed well but the tour to New Zealand did wonders for him. He ended the tour as the highest run-scorer which included two half-centuries and a century.

In a social media chat, Iyer said that if one has played India for almost a year then it means you have sealed the place. There should not be any questions asked, he said. He also mentioned that he is flexible to bat at any position for the country. One needs to be flexible and do everything according to the needs of the team.

Kohli’s praise, IPL and Iyer’s road ahead

Iyer had a fantastic tour to New Zealand where he amassed 217 runs at the number 4 position. Earlier, even Team India captain Virat Kohli complimented him saying that he was exactly like the younger Virat.

Talking about King Kohli, Shreyas said that he is a role model for every youngster. It is a “phenomenal feeling” to receive praise and compliments from him. Iyer said that whenever Kohli goes out to bat in any match it feels that he is playing his first match. He is a lion, full of energy and never gets tired. His body language is different and echoes positivity the moment he enters the ground.

He also spoke about his debut season in IPL with the Delhi Capitals (Delhi Daredevils). Shreyas scored 439 runs for the Delhi outfit and received the Emerging Payer Award. In the same season, he had fractured his index finger only in the third game but found support in Gary Kirsten. Iyer further said that not many know about this story and it was more like a dream season for him.

Ever since Iyer took over the captaincy from Gambhir, things have been good for Delhi Capitals. The 2019 season was a highly rewarding one for them as the team made it to the playoffs after seven years.

The stage seems to be set for Shreyas. Team India’s search for the number four position might also end with him.
