Indian football team’s star defender Sandesh Jhingan has decided to part ways with Indian Super League (ISL) side Kerala Blasters. It has been learnt that both have decided to mutually end the association.
Sandesh Jhingan was associated with the Kerala Blasters team for six seasons. He was instrumental in helping them reach the ISL final in 2014 but ended up on the losing side against ATK. Jhingan was drafted into the team a day after his birthday (July 22) in 2014. He went on to win the “Emerging Player of the League” the same year having appeared for 14 times. The centre-back made 76 appearances for his club in the last six years. He had been a prominent and destructive figure in the line-up over the years.
Fan love and Sandesh Jhingan’s record
The team at Kerala Blasters went drastic changes over the years but Jhingan was a constant for them. Standing tall at six feet and four inches, his robust presence in defence is greatly admired by all. He was loved by the supporters and has lived up to his name.
He is a fan favourite in Kerala and he just loves the support and unconditional love of the fans. He holds the record for the most number of caps for the Kochi based Indian Super League team.
The Chandigarh born lad had also led the Blasters in the 2017-18 ISL season. He had signed a new deal which made him the highest paying Indian defender in ISL that time. Earlier, Qatar based Al-Gharafa SC was keen on signing India’s prolific defender right after the 2019 AFC Cup.
In the 2019-20 season, an unfortunate ACL injury kept their important backline player out of the season. Post the injury, the defender was back into the scheme of things. He made himself available for the 18-day national camp which was to be conducted before India’s 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Qatar. The camp got pushed due to the COVID-19 induced lockdown.
The path ahead for Sandesh Jhingan
This year Jhingan has been nominated for the coveted Arjuna Award along with Bala Devi by the All India Football Federation (AIFF). Sandesh Jhingan with his fancy hair and a long beard is still a force to reckon with. Though he might have ended his partnership with Kerala Blasters, something better awaits him. In another development, it has been speculated that he might sign either for ATK or Mumbai City FC. His fans will love to see him again in a different outfit at the upcoming ISL season.
