There has been a wave of joy among school players across the country after the Government of India restored the recognition of SGFI, the only recognized sports body in the country. The institution has thanked Sports Minister Kiran Rijiju on the restoration of recognition.
Investigation stands complete
In February 2019, the Sports Ministry suspended the recognition of SGFI. In 2017, the recognition was suspended on the charge of non-cooperation in the ongoing investigation into the death of a Delhi schoolgirl drowned in the sea during the Pacific School Games in Australia. The Secretary-General of the institution, Dr Rajesh Mishra, was engaged in efforts to restore recognition. He was also cooperating in the investigation.
The investigation was completed during the lockdown. Based on the investigation report, the Sports Ministry restored the recognition of SGFI by banning some people who went with the team. An affidavit to this effect has been given by the Ministry to the Delhi High Court. On the restoration of recognition, Dr Rajesh Mishra expressed happiness that the institution was fully cooperating in the investigation.
Recognition was suspended due to a misunderstanding. Recognition was restored after the investigation when all the facts were conveyed to the Ministry. Dr Mishra has thanked the office bearers of the institution who helped in the restoration of recognition.
