We at India in Sports shared the news of NADA planning to resume their testing work shortly. So recently, the list of athletes banned by NADA has been revealed and the agency has started sharing the reports of the athletes that have been banned due to the presence of illegal or banned substances in their test samples. NADA has listed out a number of drugs that are not allowed for the players to consumer before or even during the matches or tournaments.
NBL’s basketball player banned for using the illegal substances
India’s famous Basketball Player, Amritpal Singh, has been suspended by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) after he was found guilty for using banned substances. Amritpal is a well-known hoopster globally and he is the only Indian to play in the National Basketball League (NBL), Australia. During out-of-competition testing, NADA found a substance known as terbutaline in his urine sample. This substance is strictly prohibited and using it is against the norms of NADA.
Testing record and result for athletes banned by NADA
This testing was done on 16th February 2020 in Bengaluru during the Indian team’s preparatory camp for the Tokyo Olympics Qualifiers round. But the report arrived in May from Qatar’s Doha laboratory, so the suspension period of Amritpal will come into effect from 19th May 2020.
Amritpal Singh, along with Amjyot Singh and Arshpreet Bhullar, was also detained by Bengaluru police the last November due to their roadside scuffle in the city.
Neeraj Phogat among others banned for four years
Also International woman boxer, Neeraj Phogat (57kg category boxer), has been banned for a period of 4 years by the disciplinary panel of NADA. Neeraj was banned after NADA accused her of using performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs). Phogat’s Suspension Period will come into effect from 2nd December 2019 after NADA found traces of ligandrol and some other anabolic steroids in her blood during testing. The boxer won her first international title at sixth Nations Cup tournament in Serbia,2017 and Bronze medal at Strandja Memorial Tournament, Bulgaria.
Shravan Kumar is among list of athletes banned by NADA
International Shooter, Shravan Kumar (Men’s 10m air pistol), was also suspended after he was tested positive for using banned substance propranolol (a beta-blocker). Shravan has represented India at Tokyo Olympics Qualifiers Round and 14th Asian Championship, Doha. He was tested on 5th February 2020 in Thiruvananthapuram during national selections trial and he accepted his suspension orders on 22nd May 2020. Particularly, Amritpal, Neeraj and Shravan’s decision is yet to be announced officially by NADA
