Is Rifle Shooting up next for Dhoni?

Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s love for sports other than cricket is well known. Be it football or adventure sport he is enthusiastic about everything. Shooting is one sport which is quite close to India’s former captain.

Mahi’s love for rifle shooting

A few years ago, he had written an email at 2 am to enquiry about importing a rifle. Later, he got the pistol delivered at his Ranchi home. He then took to the range to try his hand at the sport. Dhoni had imported the Walther rifle back then. It was the same model rifle that Abhinav Bindra had used to win India’s historic gold at Beijing.

The story is 10 years old but it shows the man’s respect and love for other sports. A year later he went on the win the 2011 World Cup with his Men in Blue. Dhoni’s love for the sport reached the shores of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) office. He was made a life member by India’s apex shooting governing body.

The rifle model that Dhoni owns is an LG300XT Walther Carbontec. Shimon Sharif was the person who had received the mail from Dhoni 10 years back. He is the person behind the shooting portal indianshooting.com. When Sharif asked for his full name and address, Dhoni replied within minutes and sent his Ranchi address. This was the moment when Sharif realised it was the great Mahendra Sigh Dhoni.

Dhoni’s shooting skills

Manavaditya Singh Rathore, son of Ravyavardhan Singh Rathore while interacting with Suresh Raina revealed about Dhoni’s shooting skills. Suresh Raina also brought curtains down to an illustrious international career with Dhoni. Manavaditya said that Dhoni has tremendous interest in shooting.

He also recalled the time when Dhoni had visited his house and how impressive he was. Back then, he hit the target most of the time.

In the year 2017, when India’s training in Kolkata was cancelled, Dhoni went to the Kolkata Police Training School.  He tried his hand at pistol shooting at the training school. Kolkata Police was in awe of Dhoni’s marksmanship and said that his accuracy was breathtaking.

The legendary cricketer is one of the few sportspersons in India who has a finesse for shooting. The proud rifle owner who has retired from international cricket can certainly hone his shooting skills further!
