IOA Chief Narinder Batra, recently made headlines as he said that he is going to urge the government to allow the national campers to take up outdoor training at the country’s major sports centers in this state of nationwide lockdown. He also mentioned that he had previously also made the same request to the government but didn’t succeed in getting a positive response for the same.
Some athletes at NIS-Patiala had also urged the government by writing them to allow them for outdoor training under the government’s social distancing guidelines. IOA Chief Narinder Batra also said that they had also made efforts to convince the Ministry of Home Affairs to seek permission to allow the athletes for outdoor training along with following all the social distancing guidelines mentioned by the government. He has said that the athletes can undergo outdoor training in small batches so that they can abide by the social distancing guidelines.Although the IOA President is not sure about the response for the same, he said that he is going to talk about this matter with the government on Sunday during the online meet of the Special General Body Meeting of the Athletics Federation of India.
IOA Chief Narinder Batra has also suggested extending the contracts of the coaches till 2022 Asian Games and Commonwealth Games. He has also said that if needed, he can offer his good offices for intervening any issue regarding the extension of tenure of both coaches and High Performance Directors of the National Sports Federation. As some sports of Asian Games and Commonwealth Games are going to 2024 Olympics qualification or can also offer ranking points for qualification, IOA Chief Narinder Batra has asked the federations to think about the extension of contracts for coaches.
Lastly, the president of IOA also praised the efforts made by the AFI to raise the profile of the country’s athletes and also said that the Olympics will be held next year and is in constant touch with reliable sources to get the updates on the Olympics.
